OUT COLD
January 15, 2008

Track is rolling…doing fine…can’t screw this up…it’s going so well…everybody’s “on”…half way there…don’t let it be me…read the page… almost home…don’t lose my plaaaace….con-cen-trrraate….ARRRGH!         Dammit!!!!

“Okay”…”Take Six.”  “Sorry, boys”

11 hours on Sunday. 11. Totally brain-fried from 2 days of intense concentration. I melted into the back of my eyelids for ten uninterrupted hours .  We captured 12 tracks, everything we set out to do, and finished up about 7:15 Sunday night.  This weekend we’ll begin laying down vocals, on which we pride ourselves …this oughta be interesting.  Glad we’re friends, er, well…at least till Saturday.

One very cool development to note:  As of today, Susan Walker has agreed to do the artwork for the CD!!   Now, at least we KNOW it’ll LOOK great!

4 DOWN...8 TO GO
January 12, 2008

We laid down rhythm tracks for 4 songs today.  Not as easy as it sounds, but Marty made it work well.   It’s an interesting dynamic to play, sitting down, while remaining as still as possible, isolated from your mates, when our live shows played standing up, moving around, crowded around a single mic…took a little bit to get used to.  Todd is so steady on that big dawghouse bass that it makes for an easy transition, and the tempos are right on so far.  We are playing everything live, no click tracks, so when one of us screws up, we have to either retake the whole song, or “punch in” and play along and let Marty work his magic back there on the board.  Kitty took lots of good video footage and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with.  She says she’ll have a “disney version” and, in case she needs to blackmail us, a “directors cut”.

Tomorrow we’ll try our best to get 8 more rhythm tracks down.  It’ll be easier because all the levels and mics set-ups are ready to go.  We’ll get in about 10am and hit it.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM
January 12, 2008

Walter Mitty, where are ya?  The DejaBlueGrass Band is finally entering the studio for our first CD project.  On Wednesday, the band ran through our final prep before heading into the studio Saturday morning. We worked on tempos, where the put breaks, vocals, etc. We’ve picked 12-14 songs for possible inclusion on the CD and want to do our best to recreate the band’s live sound and(most importantly) vibe.

We’re fortunate to work with Marty Kearns as producer/engineer.  Marty recently worked on the stellar debut of the Dappled Grays album, “Doin’ My Job”, and has played/worked with Shawn Mullins, Drivin’ & Cryin’, Sister Hazel, among many others.  Needless to say, we are very thrilled to be working with Marty!

Tomorrow we will set mics, levels, etc. and figure out the best working arrangement for the band.  Then we begin laying down rhythm tracks.  Sunday we hope to have a lot of the prelim work out of the way, so we can get a lot done and end the weekend with all rhythm tracks completed and ready for the next phase.
